Indications for Hair Transplant Tunisia
Any person, whether man or woman, is a good candidate for a hair transplant provided that they have more than 18 years of age.There are two main procedures of hair transplantation: Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), and Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT). Both procedures work and achieve satisfying and natural-looking results. Today, FUE is becoming the most common procedure for hair transplant

Hair transplantation surgery

FUT hair transplant
Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) is also known as the ‘strip method’. It involves taking linear strips or groups of hair follicles, ranging from 12 to 22 cm. These strips are then carefully placed in the scalp areas affected by hair loss. During this procedure, a number of 1200 to 1500 implants is extracted, thus obtaining 3000 to 5000 hairs. Once the procedure is done, the area wherefrom the strip was taken is sutured.
The procedure is non-stationary, painless, and performed under local anaesthesia. Its duration depends on the number of hair implants; however, it is estimated to last for 2 to 3 hours. The hair starts to grow three months after the procedure, and becomes thicker starting from the fourth or fifth month.
The patient will be able to enjoy permanent and satisfactory results after one year.
FUE Hair Transplant
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a technique, which consists in extracting hair follicles from the donor area, using a specialised extraction instrument. Follicles are then transferred to the recipient area on the patient’s scalp and implanted, leaving discrete micro-scars. This is a minimally invasive surgical procedure, so the patient will remain fully conscious, as only local anaesthesia is required.
The duration of the procedure depends on the treated area; however, it is estimated to last for 4 to 10 hours.
Hair growth starts three months after the operation. The estimated growth is 1 cm per month. The patient may enjoy definite and satisfactory results after one year.
Hair Transplant: FUT or FUE?
Which technique is the most suitable depends on the patient’s hair loss condition, and the area to implant. FUT is more recommended in treating large bald patches than FUE. The strip method permits coverage of larger hairless areas in the patient’s head.FUE tends to have less tissue scarring than FUT. FUE is thus recommended for men under the age of 35 years old. The technique is not recommended for women because it requires shaving of the treated area before surgery. The choice of procedure depends on the patient’s specific condition, as well as the surgeon’s recommendation.

The patient is advised to take between 10-15 days off of work, depending on the professional activity. Physical activity is only resumed after 3 or 4 weeks, especially if it is a water sport or a violent sport.The patient can wash their hair three day after the transplant, using a gentle shampoo. The patient should not expose the treated area to water for more than 60 seconds during the first post-surgical days.
The hair should be dried delicately using a gentle towel (do not rub), and then left to dry completely in the open air (do not use a hairdryer)
Other precautions to consider after the procedure for at least two weeks:
- Avoid exposure to the sun
- Avoid sunbathing (in the sea or in the swimming pool) and sauna
- Do not use the hairdryer
- Do not use hair gel, dye, and haircare products
