Genioplasty, also known as
chin surgery, is a surgical procedure used to improve the appearance of the chin; either by augmenting or reducing chin volume. Most patients who choose to undergo the procedure have chin insecurities and desire to improve their facial appearance.
The results of genioplasty can be spectacular, but the patient has to respect a few advice and recommendations so that the postoperative period goes in the best way possible.
Swelling treatment
After a chin surgery, it is quite expected that the patient notice puffiness, swelling or even numbness on the operated area.
Bruising and swelling will dissipate in a week or 10 days; however, numbness may persist for a few weeks or months.
During the recovery period, it is important to use a second pillow to maintain the head raised.
In order to attenuate swelling, it is recommended to apply ice on the puffy area of the chin for two days.
The resumption of work & physical activities
Resuming work will be possible after a period of 7 days. As far as sports are concerned, it is necessary to wait for a few weeks. In addition, sports’ resumption has to occur gradually; especially by avoiding intense efforts during the first sessions.
Resuming sports will be only possible upon the surgeon’s approval.
Dryness of the lips
After your chin surgery, it is quite normal to experience dryness in the lips. This might bother the patient; especially in the few days that follow the surgery, but the solution is simple: apply a lip balm regularly until the lips retrieve their natural moisture.
