Many people can get extremely insecure and embarrassed of having a double chin. The imperfection, as considered by many, makes the face not only look fatter, but also unaesthetically pleasing. One ideal way of permanently getting rid of your double chin and refining your face is through cosmetic surgery. The procedure is known as chin liposuction, or as abbreviated chin lipo.
So, what are the causes of a double chin and the surgical methods used to remove it?
Surplus fat in the chin: the causes
Generally speaking, a double chin is caused by an extra layer of fat that develops beneath the chin. Therefore, growing a fatty chin is usually due to surplus weight (like unhealthy dieting, lack of physical activity or exercising, etc.).
Other factors may include genetics; indeed, anyone with a family history of skin with little elasticity or double chins might be more likely to develop one themselves. Besides it being unaesthetic, a double chin may give a more aging appearance to the person’s face.
Removing fat from the chin through a liposuction
Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery that directly suctions surplus fat stocked in the chin. After having conducted the necessary examinations, the surgeon would have been able to assess the patient’s skin elasticity and their general health status. Once the latter is done, the surgery may take place. If the patient only suffers from a surplus of fat, the surgery will suffice to give them a refined and firm face sculpture. However, if the patient also suffers from skin slackening, then the liposuction will be combined with a
cervico-facial lift to ensure optimal results.
The procedure of chin liposuction
The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and lasts for about an hour and a half. The surgeon will start by performing two small incisions through which the thin cannulles will be introduced to suction stocked fat in the chin.
The amount of aspirated fat depends on the patient’s skin quality as well as the operated zone. After the intervention, the patient may feel slight pain that will be alleviated thanks to antalgics prescribed by the doctor. Bruising and swelling will gradually dissipate after a few weeks from the surgery.
Results will be noticeable a few days after the procedure; the face looks refined, firm and more aesthetic. The results of the procedure can last for years if the patient does not regain weight and adopts a healthy lifestyle of regular exercising and dieting.
